Underwriter Financial Institutions – Retail – Complex Risk

AXIS' Financial Institutions Retail Complex Risk Group is seeking a dynamic individual to join a strategic team of underwriters. The individual will act within established guidelines to actively market, analyze, review, and evaluate and monitor new and renewal accounts. Exercise sound judgment in the processing and management of accounts and underwriting activities.

The Underwriter will act within established guidelines, market, analyze, review, evaluate and monitor new and renewal accounts, process accounts and handle underwriting activities.

This position is posted in Chicago. AXIS works in a hybrid work schedule, with 4 days requested in the office subject to meetings and travel schedule

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Retain existing business while strategically prospecting new opportunities.
  • Manage a book of business regarding new lines, renewals, and cross-marketing of product lines within AXIS.
  • Analyze and underwrite the complete suite of Professional Lines Products in compliance with the applicable guidelines and within allocated authority while conforming to best practices and focusing on efficiency and profitability in approach.
  • Build and maintain broker professional network to support profitable business origination through the US broker market.
  • Maintain an understanding of all current issues affecting the Financial Institutions marketplace.
  • Perform the required number of broker marketing calls, including out-of-state travel.
  • Meet all divisional servicing objectivates including but not limited to quote turnaround, policy issuance, phone management, file maintenance and documentation.
  • You may also be required to take on additional duties, responsibilities and activities appropriate to the nature of this role

REQUIRED EDUCATION/TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required to develop and maintain relationships with brokers and internal business partners.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft's Office 365 suite applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 3 – 5 years of commercial insurance experience
  • Exposure to Management Liability Products
  • Enthusiasm for new business opportunities and the desire to think creatively in formulating solutions for clients and brokers.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage peak period workflows
  • Effective strategic relationship management and portfolio management skills.
  • Highly collaborative and versatile; with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

For this position, we currently expect to offer a base salary in the range of $100,000 -130,000. Your salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including your specific experience and work location.
