
Senior Underwriter, Commercial E&S Property
Our client is a national MGA writing CAT and non-CAT property across standard and non-standard lines. They are hiring a Senior Underwriter to work directly with wholesale brokers, drive quality submission flow, and use your technical expertise to evaluate and price individual accounts.
This is a production-focused underwriting seat. You will own relationships, make decisions within your authority, and build a profitable book.
What You Will Do
- Underwrite a profitable book of commercial E&S property business, including cat-exposed risks, with careful exposure analysis and pricing discipline.
- Operate within your granted authority and keep decisions tied to the portfolio's risk appetite.
- Build and maintain strong wholesale broker relationships and execute a production strategy that brings in quality new business.
- Respond quickly to broker partners and negotiate structure, terms, and conditions creatively to reach deals that work for both sides.
- Mentor junior underwriters on technical skills and professional development, and contribute to a collaborative team culture.
What You Bring
- 5+ years of E&S property underwriting experience with new business production responsibility, gained at an MGA, program administrator, or carrier.
- An established wholesale distribution network. This is required.
- Proven track record of developing and keeping strong relationships with wholesale brokers.
- Deep property underwriting knowledge, including natural perils, occupancy-specific hazards, and the application of coverage terms and exclusions.
- Experience with both CAT and non-CAT property, and familiarity with CAT portfolio construction and return on capital pricing.
- A methodical approach to risk evaluation and the ability to explain your rationale clearly and in a structured way.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to work with internal and external partners at every level.
- Comfort in a goal-driven environment with activity and outcome targets.
- Tech savviness and a willingness to learn and test new tools.
- Willingness to travel roughly 20% and to manage your own travel schedule to hit production goals.
