Description

We are seeking an experienced Executive Underwriter to drive profitable growth within our Wholesale Excess Casualty portfolio across the Central Region. This role focuses on primary general liability and excess casualty risks within the E&S market, partnering closely with wholesale brokers to evaluate, price, and structure complex risks.

The successful candidate will operate with a high degree of autonomy, leveraging deep underwriting expertise, strong market relationships, and data-driven decision-making to underwrite sophisticated risks, often characterized by unique exposures, higher hazard profiles, or significant line sizes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and price complex primary GL and excess casualty E&S risks within authority, using data-driven analysis and strong underwriting judgment.
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of wholesale broker relationships to drive profitable new business and maintain portfolio performance.
  • Evaluate, structure, and negotiate coverage for complex risks; often involving unique exposures.
  • Build and maintain a strong market presence, deepening existing broker partnerships while developing new business opportunities.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Claims, Actuarial, UW Support, and leadership to support underwriting strategy and execution.
  • Provide mentorship to junior underwriters and contribute insights on portfolio trends, emerging risks, and product or process improvements.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Business or equivalent is typically required
  • A minimum of 5-10 years, typically 3 or more years, of progressive underwriting experience and/or other related experience
  • CPCU or professional insurance designation preferred
  • Proven analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks within scope of responsibility that includes competence with all phases and aspects of the underwriting process, and proficiency in the use of qualitative and quantitative tools and techniques
  • Must demonstrate comprehension of complex technical underwriting issues and be capable of defining and implementing necessary underwriting and administrative processes/workflows to properly manage or administer those issues
  • Proven track record of developing and underwriting profitable business
