AIG is seeking an Assistant Regional Underwriting Manager to contribute to their industry leading Professional and Cyber Liability team. AIG's strong foundation as the market leader in this area has consistently evolved through innovation, creativity, use of technology, and emphasis on data analytics. AIG prides itself as staying ahead of the curve and are looking for forward thinking and inventive underwriters to facilitate in navigating a frequently changing marketplace. Areas of focus will be around E&O, Technology, Media and Cyber Liability.
In this role, you will be responsible for underwriting and servicing an existing renewal book as well as soliciting new business opportunities. This role includes constant interaction with top nationwide brokers and insureds as AIG's client base consists of Fortune 500 companies as well as major local regional players who elicit tailored and unique solutions. Through this role, underwriters gain access to a highly evolving and dynamic atmosphere that involves exposure to major influencers in the insurance, technology, and legal fields.
The Assistant Regional Underwriting Manager will be based in Chicago and report to the Regional Underwriting Manager. This role will support the development and execution of the strategies for the portfolio within the territory.
This role will be responsible for management of a team of Underwriters and oversee the performance of a portfolio of accounts. Further, the position will be responsible for the execution of the strategies for the defined territory. Role can also be a hybrid where manager also underwrites a book of business.
Additionally, this role manages all Underwriting including the planning and monitoring work, development of underwriting and/or marketing skills, and ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines. This position has direct accountability for the business results of their unit within the Zone/Region and with respect to profitability, penetration and/or volume within a specific account, segment, geographic area, product or line of business.
What you will need to succeed
- Ability to exercise judgment, negotiate and make sound business decisions effectively based on increased level of authority.
- Drive consistent underwriting best practices, in accordance with underwriting guidelines, to ensure rating, pricing, and structural adequacy.
- Responsible for assigning and managing the work of a team of underwriters.
Assist underwriters in executing on strategic initiatives. Provide support and develop solutions to their issues/concerns (system, guidelines, training, reports, new project request, product amendments). - Assist manager & underwriters in collaborating with Distribution, Business & Product Leaders, and other line(s) of business underwriters to target desirable accounts and cross selling opportunities from brokers.
- Monitor the adherence to underwriting requirements and guidelines for assigned book of business.
- Keep abreast of developments in competitive & risk landscapes to determine their effect on both renewal accounts and potential new business opportunities.
- Develop strong, long term relationships with brokers and clients to profitably grow a book of business.
- Identify the need for and manage special underwriting projects as needed.
- Provide superior customer service to brokers and clients.
- Work collaboratively with all Financial Lines Product Heads, Regional Executives, the Chief Underwriting Office and Actuarial, Legal and Claims departments.

Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 7+ years of Commercial Underwriting or Brokerage experience
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university
- Advanced knowledge of the US Cyber/E&O businesses including product features, forms, regulatory environment and risks etc.
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships
- Very strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work in dynamic, rapidly changing environment, adapting to changing requirements and collaborating with a wide range of colleagues to quickly deliver solutions.
- Proficient with underwriting analytical tools and technology
- External thought leadership
- Understanding of how to be effective and productive within a matrixed structure
